Selection Criteria

The criteria used to select applicants for SAE courses is three-fold:

 

1. General Academic Entry

A. Domestic:

i. Diploma: For Level 5 Diploma programmes, candidates are required to have gained a minimum of NCEA Level 2 or equivalent

ii. Degree: For Level 7 Degree programmes, candidates are required to have gained a minimum of NCEALevel 3 or equivalent

iii. Adult Entry: Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they have a reasonable chance of success may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission will be granted at the discretion of the Academic Manager or designated nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or tertiary introduction programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes. 

 

B. International

 i. Academic Record: Copy of the highest academic achievement at the time of application for review.           

ii. English Language Proficiency: International applicants must meet standard NZQA minimum English Proficiency Outcomes e.g IELTS (academic score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5) or equivalent score through TOEFLCambridge English ExaminationsPearson Test of EnglishIESOL or Language Cert.

iii. Adult Entry: International applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they have a reasonable chance of success may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission will be granted at the discretion of the Academic Manager or designated nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or tertiary introduction programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes. 

 

2. Creative work: Applicants must submit an example of their creative work, e.g. links to a SoundCloud, Spotify etc or video links to YouTube, Vimeo etc.

 

3. Why this is the right course for you! Applicants must submit evidence of why they believe the SAE Auckland course they wish to undertake is the right one for them. This evidence can be in any of the following formats:

  • Video file – uploaded during the application process
  • Audio file – uploaded during the application process
  • Written letter – uploaded during the application process

 

Once we receive your application, you will be scheduled for an interview to discuss your suitability for the programme and answer any questions you might have. It is compulsory to attend the interview. Interviews may occur in person on campus, or via zoom.
