LATEST INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

COVID UPDATE: 20 May 2022

Welcome to Trimester 2!

Kia ora SAE whānau

I hope you’ve had a restful and enjoyable trimester break. A reminder that Trimester 2 starts next Monday 23 May.

The courses you are undertaking and the timetable for each class should be viewable in Axis. We are aiming to have most classes back on campus, with the occasional session taught online. We appreciate that many of you have zoom fatigue (so do the staff!), but we also hear you saying you’d like to maintain some online teaching. We hope the timetable we’ve put together gives you the ideal mix.

Your Axis timetable, as well as your Slack channel, will confirm whether you are on-campus or online on any given day. Please check this regularly and reach out to your Course Coordinator or HoD if you have any questions.

So, from next Monday our campus is going to look far busier with more and more students and staff being on site. This raises the question of our COVID protocols and how we’ll operate throughout Trimester 2.

Assuming we remain under the ORANGE traffic light setting, SAE Auckland will maintain our ORANGE Safety Protocols set last month. The key points to know are:

  • Masks will remain compulsory while on campus. Masks can only be removed for eating/drinking, or briefly while you are recording vocals/filming.
  • Pleasestay home if you are unwell and seek a COVID test if required.
    • If you test positive to COVID, please let me know. If you have been on campus during the infectious period, I’ll put out comms and update our Locations of Interest Table
    • If you are a household contact and need to self-isolate, please let Student Support know

Our Safety Protocols including wearing medical-grade masks (eg N95), our mobile air filtration units, our ventilation systems, our rigorous cleaning regime, as well as our highly vaccinated community have been effective in reducing the spread of COVID. Through our internal contract tracing, it’s become clear that a confirmed case at SAE is not leading to widespread infection across campus. Let’s keep that up. By wearing masks and being mindful of keeping distanced where possible, and by staying home if you are sick, you are playing your part in keeping our SAE community safe.

I’ve reattached the ORANGE Safety Protocols that you need to follow. Please take a moment to read through and refresh your memory of what COVID protections we have in place at SAE.

I’m really looking forward to seeing more of you at SAE from next Monday. I even hear Mr Whippy’s going to be on campus to celebrate the start of Tri 2!

See you next week (with your mask on )

Arohanui,

Suzette
