IT and audio whizz joins SAE studios

30 Jul 2018

SAE Creative Media Institute is pleased to welcome audio engineer Carl Bailey to the SAE studio supervisor team.

While completing his Diploma in Audio Engineering, Carl was working alongside music mogul Chris Chetland at Kog Studios. When he wasn’t studying, mixing with audio royalty or producing music he was recording Hip Hop vocals at Auckland home-based studio The Sudio and making garage rock at home. To say he was qualified for the job is an understatement.

Prior to working at SAE, Carl was in IT. He holds a Diploma in Computing and Network support and worked for over five years as the system engineer at Vista.

“I was sitting in an office thinking about recording. I had very little equipment and a lot of questions,. I wanted to make my recordings better, and that’s all I could think about,” he said.

One day Carl knew he had to make a change and follow his dream.

“I was working and saving for a house, but the property market went ballistic and I decided to put that money towards my dream, and follow my passion.

“It’s a decision I will never regret. I’m loving working with like-minded people and doing a job I am actually passionate about.”

The role of studio supervisor is vital in the running of the institute. Working alongside students, trouble-shooting the studios and providing technical assistance made Carl an obvious choice. Head studio supervisor Micah Sterling said he was an obvious choice for the role .

“With Carl’s awesome audio experience, IT and customer service background, he is a great addition to the team, I am thrilled to have him on board.”

By securing employment within the audio field Carl’s ambition to be a home owner doesn’t seem so unachievable.

“My dream has come true,” Carl said. “I’m working at SAE, the premier audio engineering, music production and film making institute, while doing my audio work out in the field – I couldn’t be happier.”

In the most recent NZQA External Evaluation and Review (EER) SAE received the highest possible rating as a high performing, high-quality tertiary provider. SAE Auckland offers workshops, Diplomas and Degrees in Audio, Music and Screen Production.
