SAE AUCKLAND PROUD SPONSOR OF FUNDRAISER LOUDER THAN LOVE 2019!

19 Jun 2019

This Saturday 22 June, musicians from around Aotearoa New Zealand will come together at Auckland’s Galatos bar to play a show in tribute to the late Chris Cornell, raising funds and awareness for mental health and suicide prevention services.

SAE Creative Media Institute (SAE) is a proud sponsor of Louder than Love 2019, which was founded by SAE Auckland lecturer Lora Thompson in response to the death of the Soundgarden/Audioslave musician in 2018.

An active advocate for mental health services in New Zealand’s music scene, Ms Thompson is seeking to draw attention to the plight of many musicians in this country.

“It’s clear that mental health is still an issue in our industry,” says Ms Thompson. “Despite recent mental health initiatives improving, we still have a long way to go. Louder than Love is a way of showing support both for people in the industry who are suffering or know someone who is suffering, but also for the general public – it’s an outlet for them too.”

The event, which is supported by SAE staff from different creative media disciplines,  is one of many mental health initiatives spearheaded by SAE Auckland in recent years.  These include significant investment in SAE’s student support systems and staffing.

“SAE Auckland is committed to improving awareness around mental health issues which are prevalent in New Zealand’s creative industries,” says Campus Director Dr Suzette Major.

“We’re seeing improved results across the board.”.

This year’s line-up for Louder than Love includes members of Skinny Hobos, Elemeno P, Delete Delete, Coridian, She Loves You, Cheshire Grimm and much more. In addition, cover/tribute sets of bands Hole and Marilyn Manson will also feature. A blind charity auction and spot prizes will be available on the night.
