SAE Creative Media Institute is pleased to welcome audio engineer and producer, Micah Livesay, to the SAE team.

Since graduating with a Bachelor in Audio Engineering, Micah has worked at York Street Studios, NZ Rock Shop, and run his own audio and producing company, Supreme Audio. He will continue to freelance as a producer and audio engineer alongside his role as Head Studio Supervisor at SAE.

Well experienced in the music industry, Micah has worked with the likes of Shihad and Phil Rudd (the former drummer for AC/DC). He produced and engineered Hunter’s first EP, which made it to the Herald top 100 EPs in 2015.

His musical tastes are wide ranging; he has enjoyed working on Hip Hip, Rock and Alternative Pop records. His latest project is engineering and producing an EP for Wellington Band, GirlBoss, which he describes as ‘dreamy lo-fi pop.’

Hailing from Wanganui, where his family still live, Micah grew up around music. His mother is a classical opera singer, his sister is a classical pianist and there are other notable musicians in his wider family.

‘Sing-a-longs around the piano tend to be next level in our family,’ he says with a smile. 

As Head Supervisor at SAE, Micah looks after the running of the studios and the studio supervisor staff. His role is instrumental in keeping the studios running and maintaining and keeping track of gear.

Of his career, Micah says: ‘I want to work with passion projects, people who inspire me.’

That includes SAE.

‘I loved my time studying at SAE. After being in the industry I felt I had something I could come and give back. I have enjoyed my time on the SAE Industry Advisory Committee and it’s great to now be on the staff. I look forward to working with the students here.’

Micah spent his first few week on the job getting stuck in by overhauling the gear booking systems, moving everything to a new space on campus. He also catalogued everything.
